Fun with Flash: Gravity

A while ago, I built a Flash animation for one of our clients that showed particles floating around while an attractor sucked them up. It was so much fun building and testing it that I started building a game out of it. I took the magnetic algorithm I was using in the animation and put it in the game, but I replaced the particles with a single missile and used multiple attractors. I turned it into planets in space with an orbiting rocket. It’s entertaining to see how long your rocket will orbit the planets before crashing into one.

Go ahead and try it out. Click and drag your mouse in the direction you want to fire your rocket. The further you drag from the rocket, the greater initial velocity your rocket will have. Then release the mouse button to start the simulation. See how long you can fly without crashing. The longer you fly, the more extra lives you earn. If you hit the wormhole in the center, you are transported to another place in time and space (it redraws the screen with random settings).

Keep in mind that this is only a proof-of-concept game. It doesn’t have a title screen, real game play, story line, sound effects, or background music. I add to it whenever I have a little time (which is not often). But as simple and rough as it is, it’s still fun to play.

    Best flight: 30.991 seconds.
I was just trying to use up all my extra lives… then I got 30 more!
    Post your best flights!
